Mother’s Day Tea 2025
Ever since I turned 40, my mom has been saying to me (and all my other 40 year old friends) that she now addresses us as her friends and not her daughter/daughter’s friends. My mom and I have been close practically my whole life but it’s just within the past few years that we’ve been able to really kick it together….and girl we be having a ball! Hands down, she is my favorite person to ki-ki with.
Today me and my girl went to a Mother’s Day Tea hosted by the women of World Overcomers Church in Durham, NC. We got all dressed up Southern Tea/Kentucky Derby style and stepped out there and had ourselves A TIME! See below for links to my look. Fun fact: I put together looks for different occasions on my iPad in my spare time. This function was no exception.
Links to each item (except shoes) are below. Shoes were bought YEARS ago!

Every single lady in that place, young and old, were eating DOWN mmkayy?!! I mean it’s just something about being in a room full of well-dressed women of God who are smiling and enjoying themselves in the cutest and most girly girl of ways. Plus, I just love me a good ole nastyyyyy church hat and they were representing at this function on today! I loved every minute of it and so did my Mama. She was so inspired that she’s now planning a Tea at her home church. For info on my Mom’s look, shoot me an email!
More than the fashion at this event was the amazing fellowship and sharing of wisdom from women in various seasons of their lives. As a storyteller myself, I’ve always been in awe of listening to stories and wisdom from women who are older than me and those who just have more experience than me in a particular aspect of life. The gems that were poured out at this function were so heart felt and edifying. So many of their stories touched me and inspired me in more ways than one!
The event also had games and favors and a balloon arch for photos, which is where we took the picture above. Now they had some cute lil finger foods at this function that we nibbled on, but the moment me and my Mama stepped out of there we immediately asked each other where we were going to eat. We made our way to Bonefish and ate good while catching each other up on all the things. Now me and my Mama both laugh really loud so we had to try extra hard to laugh softly and cutesy as we had come straight from the function in our Mother’s Day Tea attire and we could not be up in there looking like dignified ladies while hollering laughing like hyenas lol. We were definitely the overdressed women in the restaurant. But it was cool, we still had a time cackling and eating and sipping.
As Mother’s Day approaches and after spending days like this with my Mama, I’m reminded of how incredibly blessed I am to have her in my life, and to have such a great relationship with her. I’m grateful that she’s shown me such a good example of the kind of relationship that I want to cultivate with my own daughter. I’m always praying for all mothers and daughters more often around this time of year because I know there is often times unresolved issues, trauma and pain within this dynamic that can stir up in this season. Whether you’re a mother, daughter or both, I pray that you have peace and joy during this season regardless of your circumstances.
Love and Blessings,
~Ros
