Win The Moment: How I Beat Procrastination to Finish MATERNAL2

Let me tell you—it took everything in me to finish this sequel. After five long years of struggling to wrap up Maternal2, I had to get real with myself. Life was coming at me fast with raising a teenager, coaching cheer, and trying to not put myself on the backburner in the process. But I realized that if I was ever going to finish this book, I had to stop waiting for some magical block of free time and start winning each moment.

So, how did I do it? I broke it down into little moments of intention.

First, I stopped waiting to feel “inspired.” Inspiration is great, but it can also be a fickle thing. I set a goal to write just 10 minutes a day—even if it wasn’t my best work. Showing up regularly made those small moments add up.

Second, I learned to protect my focus. Instead of letting distractions win, I turned my phone on ‘Do Not Disturb’ during my writing time. I had to remember that every notification wasn’t an emergency. That boundary gave me back precious time.

Third, I gave myself permission to take breaks but not to quit. On days when writing felt impossible, I would step away, light a candle, and journal out what was blocking me. Most times, I wasn’t uninspired—I was just overwhelmed.

Finishing this sequel didn’t come down to motivation or even discipline; it came down to reclaiming those little moments and making them work for me. If you’re struggling to finish a project, give yourself grace but also a plan. Win each moment, and watch those victories build up over time.

Now tell me, what’s been your biggest struggle with procrastination, and how have you dealt with it? Drop a comment and let’s encourage each other!

Getting Back to Me: Reclaiming My Pen After a Five-Year Hiatus

Baby, let me tell you something—it’s been a long five years. And I mean long. I took a step back from my writing, not realizing that step was about to turn into a whole journey. Life got in the way, and honestly, I was just trying to keep my head above water. Juggling work, being a mama, and dealing with life’s ups and downs had me putting my pen down and settling into a good life when I knew deep down I was meant for something great.

But then, girl, I turned 40. And that milestone? It hit different. See, there’s something about that number that wakes you up and makes you realize how precious your time really is. All those dreams you’ve had? The ones you’ve tucked away and put off because life got busy? Well, baby, those dreams start calling your name a little louder when you hit that big 4-0.

Chile, the hardest part was finding the time and the headspace to write. You see, writing ain’t just about putting words on paper. It’s about tapping into that special place in your mind, where creativity flows and those stories come alive. And after five years of being out the game, finding my way back to that place wasn’t easy. It’s like there was this wall between me and my imagination—a wall I built with my doubts, fears, and distractions.

But then came my people—my friends and family who know me better than I know myself. They saw me settling into this comfortable life, and baby, they weren’t having it. They spoke life into me when I didn’t have the words for myself. Reminded me of who I was and what I was capable of. They pulled my cards, told me I had a story that needed to be heard, and they weren’t about to let me forget it.

It’s something powerful about having people in your corner who see the greatness in you, even when you can’t see it for yourself. They nudged me, sometimes straight-up pushed me, to get out of my own way. And that’s when it hit me: I had to stop playing small and step into the greatness I’ve been called to.

So, here I am, getting my wind back. Finally tapping into that place where my stories come alive and my creativity runs wild. Because when you know you’re meant for more, baby, you can’t just settle for good. You have to strive for great. So to anyone out there feeling stuck or scared to start again, let me tell you: don’t let life’s distractions keep you from the path you’re meant to walk. Dust off those dreams and put your greatness into motion.

Girl, it’s time to reclaim your wind and let it carry you right into your purpose.
